Gresham Imaging Center Awarded GREAT
Business Certification
Adventist Health’s Gresham Imaging Center,
is a full service medical imaging center aiming to reduce its own waste and
environmental impacts. “We are committed to being a responsible community
partner, and we believe that commitment includes promoting environmental
sustainability,” says site administrator Travis Clegg. Aside from avoiding films
and chemicals in their imaging process by using all digital equipment, the
office also returns used MammoPads, soft cushions that help image quality and
decrease patient discomfort during mammograms, to be made into carpet padding.
Open since 2004, the office serves approximately 15,000 patients per year. The
19 employees were encouraged by the
GREAT Business program to reduce their waste further by establishing
a durable dishware system. “We virtually eliminated disposables in our break
room; we now have re-usable plates, bowls, cups, mugs, and flatware,” says Randi
White, the office coordinator, as she shows off the tidy cupboard where the
dishes are stored.
With a business model built around patient comfort, Gresham Imaging Center is
also showing their dedication to a sustainable future. In 2009 they will be
focusing on reducing travel to the main Adventist hospital and energy
consumption in the office.
