Why is compression of the
breast necessary?
Compression reduces radiation
dosages by separating breast tissue, which allows the technologist and the
radiologist to see through the breast.
Will the results of my exam be
compared with those from prior exams?
Yes. If comparison films are
available, the radiologist will review them to see if any changes have occurred.
Will my technologist be a female?
Yes. All of our mammography
technologists are female.
Will I know the results of my test
today?
If you are having a yearly
screening mammogram, the results will not be immediately available. A
radiologist will review the images later, under proper viewing conditions,
before notifying you of the results.
When will I know the results?
Results are typically delivered to
your doctor within 7-10 days.
Why can't I wear deodorant or powder
on the day of my exam?
Deodorants and powders can cause
artifacts on images of the breast that might require the technologist to take
additional images.
This procedure can be performed at either
Adventist Medical Center or here
at
Gresham Imaging Center.
